Another U.S. foreign policy failure…

A general view of the U.S. embassy compound in Sanaa houthi

Yesterday the U.S. embassy in Sana’a, Yemen was evacuated due to mounting security concerns after Houthi rebels assumed control of Yemen. Top-secret documents were destroyed, Marines destroyed their weapons, and all of the remaining staff drove to the airport and flew back to the the United States. The French and British have also evacuated their embassies and urged all of their citizens who have not yet left to leave the country. In the words of British Minister of the Middle East Tobias Ellwood: We have therefore decided to withdraw diplomatic staff and temporarily suspend the operations of the British embassy in Sanaa. Our ambassador and diplomatic staff have left Yemen this morning and will return to the UK“. Does anyone know what’s going to happen in Yemen now? Who else can think of some people not to ask?

Though some may have claimed that Yemen was a success story, even Sen. Dianne Feinstein was urging an evacuation of the U.S. embassy last month. I suppose that some success stories are simply short lived. I guess that the 110 Tomahawks fired at Libya were also put to good use weren’t they?

Queue the laugh track:

Just look at how successful the Arab Spring has been…
