Westerwaldlied and other assorted music

big_27963428_0_1024-768

I think for today I’d like to just post some nice music up.

Lyrics borrowed from Wikipedia:

German English translation
First verse
Heute wollen wir marschier’n
Einen neuen Marsch probier’n
In dem schönen Westerwald
Ja da pfeift der Wind so kalt
Today we want to march
To try out a new march
In the lovely Westerwald
Yes, there the wind whistles so cold
Chorus
Oh, Du schöner Westerwald
Über Deine Höhen pfeift der Wind so kalt
Jedoch der kleinste Sonnenschein
Dringt tief ins Herz hinein
Oh, you lovely Westerwald
Over your heights the wind whistles so cold
However, the smallest sunshine
Thrusts deep into the heart
Second verse
Und die Gretel und der Hans
Gehn des Sonntags gern zum Tanz
Weil das Tanzen Freude macht
Und das Herz im Leibe lacht

Wiederhole Refrain

And Gretel and Hans
Gladly go dancing on Sunday
Because dancing makes joy
And the heart in the body laughs

Repeat chorus

Third verse
Ist das Tanzen dann vorbei
Gibt es meistens Keilerei
Und dem Bursch, den das nicht freut,
sagt man nach, er hat kein’ Schneid

Wiederhole Refrain

When the dancing is over
There is mostly fighting
And the lad whom that does not please
Is accused of having no grit

Repeat chorus

Fourth verse
Oh, Du schöner Westerwald
Bist ja weit und breit bekannt
Echte Menschen der Natur
Von Falschheit keine Spur

Wiederhole Refrain

Oh, you lovely Westerwald
Are known far and wide
True people of nature
Of falsehood no trace

Repeat chorus

Meet Sister Julia, Diamond of Islam

Salam alaikum, you kafir infidel you. Did you know that women in Islam are like diamonds? Did you know that Mohammad was a feminist? Did you know that Islam is the perfect system from Allah for women? Did you also know that Islam gives women protection after any bad thing happens, like divorce?! Let’s hear Sister Julia (Russian) explain in more detail:

Isn’t amazing that Mohammad helped his wives and children out? It’s even better when that wife happens to be a six year old! Na’iama also brings up many good points such as: go back to the Koran, you are required to say “peace be upon him” after you say the Prophet Mohammad’s name, and that Mohammad’s personage, peace be upon him, will make you see the beauty of Islam, and the Prophet would mend his own shoes. Indeed, the Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him, was the ultimate feminist.

Prog_Off

All right, I couldn’t keep that up much longer. Progressives can claim that the “refugees” currently entering Europe are all peace-loving and kind people all they want though this does not make it true. It’s amazing how many media establishments are covering up who the criminals in a rash of gang rapes and attacks on New Years were, including ZDF, a German public broadcasting company. From the London Daily Mail the program editor had the following to say:

We don’t want to inflame the situation and spread a bad mood. The migrants don’t deserve it

The Cologne police chief Wolfgang Anders has had to resign over covering up the sex attacks by the Muslim migrants. Perhaps the mayor should follow suit along with Frau Merkel. According to a leaked police report:

When we arrived [at the square] our vehicles were pelted with firecrackers. On the cathedral steps were a thousand people, mainly of immigrant background, who were indiscriminately throwing fireworks and bottles into the crowd.

Women literally had to run the gauntlet through the mass of drunk men in a way you can’t describe ….many came to officers shocked and crying to report sex assaults. We were unable to respond to all the offences. There were just too many.

One of the other news stories from the Daily Mail covers how Frau Merkel (Time Magazine’s Chancellor of the Free World) has admitted that she has “lost control” of the migrant situation:

Now all of a sudden we are facing the challenge that refugees are coming to Europe and we are vulnerable, as we see, because we do not yet have the order, the control, that we would like to have.

Then there’s this brilliant comment:

Nobody should act as though you can have a common currency without being able to cross borders reasonably easily.

The Brussels Sprouts just can’t let their Euro experiment die can they? Achieving a monetary union before a proper political union is great policy right? Hopefully it’ll continue to tear the nations of the European Union from the grasp of Communists like Jose Manuel Barroso. Maybe the Alternative for Germany (which continues to gain votes) will do what the Front National has done in France to the Socialist Party.

20160109-635879567206449956w

I wonder why the socialists at Salon, The New Republic, or Slate aren’t condemning the vile actions of these migrant men? I guess when the offender is a Party politician or oppressed minority it doesn’t matter. Funny enough, when German citizens held some protests about the attacks by migrants the police were able to bring out the water cannons. I wonder why those weren’t brought out earlier?

300E127600000578-3394896-Protestors_from_the_PEGIDA_movement_Patriotic_Europeans_Against_-a-15_1452560720093 2FF3B8F700000578-3393543-Attacks_Right_wing_supporters_attend_a_to_protest_against_the_Ne-a-7_1452546581489 300DE37500000578-3393543-image-a-16_1452547162345 300DF6C700000578-3393543-image-a-20_1452547195927

Remember, we need to help refugees that throw back free food and water. It’s also important that we give the migrants a bunch of cash and high-speed Internet.

Remember folks, if you oppose Frau Merkel’s plan to make up for Germany’s extremely low birthrates you’re a hard-right, national socialist, xenophobic bigot.

Frau Merkel wants to keep her job

How much longer will Frau Merkel be Chancellor?
How much longer will Frau Merkel be Chancellor?

It seems that Frau Merkel believes her position as Chancellor of Germany may be threatened in the next set of elections; she now wants to “drastically decrease” the number of migrants entering Germany. From the Yahoo News! story:

Merkel has resisted pressure from allies within her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) to put a cap on the number of refugees entering Germany, which is expected to top 1 million this year.

Only one million huh?

‘At the same time we took on board the concerns of the people, who are worried about the future, and this means we want to reduce, we want to drastically decrease the number of people coming to us,’ Merkel told broadcaster ARD.

I suppose that Merkel is now worried about the future of her political career. What exactly was she expecting from her people? In Paris and Brussels New Years’ celebrations had to be cancelled and two railway stations were closed in Germany due to threats from suicide bombers.

Merkel, whose popularity has fallen over her handling of the refugee crisis, said the word ‘limit’ did not feature in the CDU’s main resolution which will be debated at the two-day party congress starting on Monday in the southern city of Karlsruhe.

Perhaps it’s time to add the word “limit” to the CDU’s vocabulary.

The chancellor added there was broad support in the CDU for her strategy to reduce the numbers.

I’ll bet there is; she wouldn’t want what happened to the Socialist Party in France to happen to her party coalition (CSU/CDU).

This included working with Turkey to fight traffickers, improving the situation at Syrian refugee camps in Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan, and strengthening control of the European Union’s outer borders.

How about strengthening the borders of European countries as well? How about E.U. member states regaining control over their countries?

Merkel’s conservative critics want her to get the number of arrivals down before three state elections in March and say her hopes of running for a fourth term in 2017 would be in danger.

I wonder if Merkel would admit to this?

Her critics say her decision in late August to allow Syrian asylum seekers to remain in Germany regardless which EU country they had first entered had accelerated the influx of migrants.

The migrants can’t get enough free stuff in Italy or Greece.

Here’s a video of these poor, oppressed, and peace-loving migrants turning down free food and water:

Germany still has to face up to the problems of a shrinking population and demographic death-spiral though. I suppose that this was Chancellor Merkel’s way of dealing with the problem; can’t expect progressives to have children right? Merkel has claimed that the migrant influx is a “opportunity for tomorrow.” in a New Year’s address to Germany. From another Yahoo! News article:

‘Next year is about one thing in particular: our cohesion,’ she said. It is important we don’t allow ourselves to be divided. It is crucial not to follow those who, with coldness or even hatred in their hearts, lay a sole claim to what it means to be German and seek to exclude others,’ she urged, in a reference to ring-wing populists and xenophobic street rallies.

I see that the Party media apparatus is hard at work. Anyone who disagrees with adding a million “refugees” a year and Sharia must be a xenophobe, right? I think that citizens of European countries are tiring of being called bigots and xenophobic. As I stated earlier the Socialist Party was crushed in recent French elections and the same may happen to the CSU/CDU in Germany soon. The United Kingdom is holding a referendum on European Union membership in 2017 and could easily exit the EU. If your interested you could always donate to the Leave EU campaign. Czech President Milos Zeman called the recent immigration wave “an organized invasion.” The EU is cracking up and I wonder how many years it will last? Bets anyone?

Greece said no to the E.U.

Well the Greek referendum is over with and the Greeks voted with a resounding no (61%) on accepting bailout terms. Plenty of European leaders may say that they believe in the Euro and want Greece to stay in the European Union. The opinion polls that showed the Greeks at a dead heat which each other appear to have been quite wrong. The Greek banks don’t exactly have a lot of cash anymore so the drachma will have to make a reappearance pretty soon. There are no laws written on how a member state would leave the E.U. so now might be a good time for the bureaucrats in Brussels to figure something out.

They're happy, but are they ready for what may come next?
They’re happy, but are they ready for what may come next?

The United Kingdom will be holding a referendum on E.U. membership by 2017. 260,000 Austrians signed a petition that will force the Austrian government to debate the topic of leaving the E.U. in parliament. The most recent E.U. elections went very well for Eurosceptic parties and the trend doesn’t seem to be bending towards those who believe in the Euro and the European Union as it currently stands.

Won't see these two flags next to each other for much longer.
Won’t see these two flags next to each other for much longer.

I don’t see how the Greeks can possibly maintain their current budgets and spending levels. I also don’t see how the people of Europe are willing to give up control of their currencies, much of their economies, and sovereignty to a body like the European Union. The intellectuals who believed and pushed for the Euro seemed to believe that a monetary union would bring political unification. Quite the opposite has happened though. Political differences and demands by different nations that don’t have a real Federal government or other institutions to bind them together are destroying the idea of European integration. Even space cadet Paul Krugman realizes that the Euro is a flawed idea.

Greece and capital control

The Greek government recently announced that banks would be shutdown for six business days, ATM withdrawals would be limited to €60 per day, and that the Athens Stock Exchange would remain closed on Monday. Time is almost up for Greece and the actions taken by the Greek government won’t solve any financial problems. PM Tsipras and the Greek government are still blaming everybody but themselves for this mess. Tsipras wants the deadline for the bailout program to be extended past June 30th to allow time for a referendum. The following are some statements made my Tsipras:

It is now more than clear that this decision has no other aim than to blackmail the will of the Greek people and prevent the smooth democratic process of the referendum,” and “They will not succeed. These moves will have the exact opposite effect. They will make the Greek people more determined in their choice to reject the unacceptable … proposals and ultimatums of the creditors,

Couldn’t Tsipras just be honest and say give my country more free money while forgiving our debt? If the Greek people are interested in regaining sovereignty they should vote to leave the E.U. and dump the Euro. The Greeks also need to reduce government spending and dump socialism. I suppose that there’s simply no way that anything will work out well for Greece. Even if Greece receives any help from the Russians or Chinese, the coming years will be even more painful than the last five have been. The Greek healthcare system has been going downhill for years now while Greeks pensions continue to stay fat. Obviously what Greece needs is more socialism and not less. I wonder how much higher the Greek unemployment rate can go, which is currently over 25%?

The Greek tragedy continues… somehow

This game between Greece and its creditors somehow drags on. I really don’t understand why, the Greeks are showing few signs of making reforms. The Greeks have already received bailout money, aren’t willing to make any reforms, and continue to make demands of the ECB, IMF,  Germany, and anyone else who loaned money to the Greeks and expected the Greeks to not act like total deadbeats. Like I’ve written before, there’s no writing a parody about this. The actions of the Greek government are a parody and complete joke in of themselves. I wonder how many people believe that the Greeks will actually pay back all of the money that they were given?

I suppose I can’t blame Greece’s creditors to harshly for keeping up the charade of negotiations. Who would want to take the blame for Greece default and going back to the drachma? Everyone has there limits though. IMF spokesman Gerry Rice stated: “There has been no progress in narrowing these differences,” and “There are major differences between us in most key areas“. I would read this as the Greeks just want free money and the IMF has had enough of that. European Union President Donald Tusk quipped: “The Greek government has to be, I think, a little bit more realistic“. Volker Kauder, the caucus leader for Merkel’s party in Germany stated: “It’s not possible that the borrower decides under what conditions the lender kindly gives his money”.

There goes Merkel, dour as usual. Why isn't she more interested in giving the Greeks more money?
There goes Merkel, dour as usual. Why isn’t she more interested in giving the Greeks more money?

Perhaps the Greeks are right and from now on the debtor should dictate the terms of the loan contract to the creditor? That sounds plenty progressive to me! Having to pay back the money one owes should be relegated to the last millennium. Only evil capitalists and enemies of the state would want their money back. What’s wrong with Greek proposals to borrow more money to pay back debt? Forward comrades, the revolution awaits!

The Greeks and delusions of WWII reparations

I’ve typed up about the Greeks and their fiscal woes a little bit, but the Greek socialists must be getting really desperate now. The Greek government recently put a price tag on WWII reparations that they are demanding from the German government at 279 billion euros. Since this isn’t the first time countries have demanded a payout from Germany of war, perhaps the Greeks wouldn’t try it again. Besides, one would think that the Greeks would be demanding a payout from the Italians since they’re the ones who decided to attack Greece. Hitler and Germany were perfectly content with leaving the Greeks alone, but Il Duce just had to have Greece. But it’s not like the Italians have any money to pay up, and they would respond with a resounding no just like the Germans did to such an inane request.

If we’re being honest, how many countries in existence don’t have land taken from someone else? What land isn’t occupied land? Should reparations go all the way back to Cain and Abel? Who would get money for the Punic wars? I could bring up numerous wars and list the losers, but plenty of people have done that in the comments section of the Yahoo! News articles. Let’s take a look at some of them:

Victory at Stalingrad!

On this day in 1943, the final northern pocket of German resistance in Stalingrad capitulated and surrendered to Soviet forces; the other two pockets of German resistance had surrendered on January 31. Initially in the German war with the Soviets there was much success and the Wehrmacht has pushed within thirty-five kilometers of Moscow. Operations Barbarossa and Blue had advanced hundreds of kilometers. Still, it was never enough to please Hitler and not enough to defeat the Soviet Union. Hitler ignored numerous recommendations from his own generals, stretched his supply lines beyond reasonable limits and split his southern offensive up between going for the oil fields of Baku and Stalingrad concurrently. There was no easy victory in Stalingrad; house to house fighting greatly slowed down the German advance and the Soviet defenders proved very tenacious.

The fighting dragged on into the winter and eventually Operation Uranus launched by the Soviets completely encircled the 6th German Army by November 22nd. Hitler refused to allow von Paulus’ 6th Army and supporting troops to break out through the southwest and claimed that other forces German forces would push through to reach them. There were no successful German attempts to break through the encirclement and the Luftwaffe was never able to bring close to enough supplies to support the doomed soldiers. Of the hundreds of thousands of surrounded German soldiers, only 6,000 would ever return home. There was no victory for the Nazis in Stalingrad, only death and defeat.

There are few movies made from the German perspective of WWII; there are also very few movies made by the German people themselves on the topic. Stalingrad was a German movie released in 1993 and I highly recommend watching it. It’s well worth your time.

Here’s another interesting video about the Battle of Stalingrad.

Here’s the text of the Russian Ultimatum delivered to von Paulus on January 7, 1943:

To the Commander in Chief of the German Sixth Army,
Colonel General Paulus, or his representative
and to all the officers and men of the German
units now besieged in Stalingrad.

The Sixth Army, formations of the Fourth Panzer Army, and those units sent to reinforce them
have been completely encircled since the 23rd of November, 1942.

The soldiers of the Red Army have sealed this German Army Group within an unbreakable
ring. All hopes of the rescue of your troops by a German offensive from the south or
south-west have proved vain. The German units hastening to your assistance were defeated
by the Red Army, and the remnants are now redrawing to Rostow.

The German air transport fleet, which brought you a starvation ration of food, munitions and
fuel has been compolled by the Red Army’s succesful and rapid advance repeatedly to
withdraw to airfields more distant from the encircled troops. It should be added that the
German air transport fleet is suffering enormous losses in machines and crews at the hands
of the Russian Airforce. The help they can bring to the besieged forces is rapidly becoming
illusory.

The situation of your troops is desperate. They are suffering from hunger, sickness and cold.
The cruel Russian winter has scarcely yet begun. Hard frosts, cold winds and blizzards still
lie ahead. Your soldiers are unprovided with winter clothing and are living in appalling
sanitary conditions.

You, as Commander in Chief, and all the officers of the encircled forces know well that there
is for you no real possibility of breaking out. Your situation is hopeless, and any further
resisitance senseless.

In view of the desperate situation in which you are placed, and in order to save unnecessary
bloodshed, we propose that you except the following terms of surrender :

1) All the encircled German troops, headed by yourself and your staff, shall cease to resist.

2) You will hand over to such persons as shall be authorised by us, all members of your
armed forces, all war materials and all army equipment in an undamaged condition.

3) We guarantee the safety of all officers and men who cease to resist, and their return after
the end of the war to Germany or to any other country to which these prisoners of war
may wish to go.

4) All personell of units which surrender may retain their military uniforms, badges of rank,
decorations, personal belongings and valuables and, in case of high ranking officers their
swords.

5) All officers, non-commissioned officers and men who surrender will immediately receive
normal rations.

6)All those are wounded, sick of frost-bitten will be given medical treatment.

Your reply is to be given in writing by ten o’clock, Moscow time the 9th of January 1943.
It must be delivered by your personal representative, who is to travel in a car bearing a white
flag along the road that leads tothe Konny siding at Kotlubanj station. Your representative
will be met by fully authorised Russian officers in District B, 500 metres south-east of siding
564 at 10.00hrs. on the 9th of January, 1943.
Should you refuse our offer that you lay down in your arms, we hereby give you notice
that the forces of the Red Army and the Red Airforce will be compelled to proceed with
the distruction of the encircled German tropps. The responsibility for this will lie with you.

Representing Headquarters Red Army Supreme Command,
Colonel General of the Artillery Voronov.
The Commander in Chief of the Forces of the Don front,
 Lieutenant General Rokossovski.

German thoughts on the Energiewende and Green Energy

A lot of leftists/greens/socialists would have you believe that green energy is cheap, scalable, and with few downsides, so much so that they can’t ever shut up about it. They just love to cite Germany’s “Energiewende” as an example for all of us to follow, it’s almost as if climate change is their religion. Never mind that Germany’s own government has been forced to accept that the Renewable Energy Act (EEG) is a complete and total failure. Also forget that Germany is burning more coal than ever before, nuclear power is evil and green energy is obviously the only way.

Perhaps it’s all a part of the Green plan? If electricity prices go up enough then we’ll just stop using electricity right? We can all just give up our cars, stop using any electricity, become hunter-gatherers, and live in caves. While we’re doing that, all of the rich celebrity environmentalists will hear of our new found climate faith and fly out in their private jets to watch as we all bow down and worship the Goreacle. It’ll be a sight for the ages.

Let’s ask some Germans what they think about the GroKo. It’s really quite hilarious.

Remember, whenever governments say something is free or cheap it must be true right? You just have to become more generous.

Here’s Angela Merkel and her adivsors admitting that the EEG has failed.
